Vanessa Torres

Vanessa Torres (Bogota, Colombia 1978) is a Colombian born poet and cultural anthropologist currently residing in San Francisco, California. As a creator, feminist and cultural activist, she has worked on different proposals and projects for the projection of Hispanic American culture as well as the visualization of the arts and literature made by women creators, inside and outside the United States through radio, journalism and literature. Her poetry and literary journalism projects have been published in literary magazines in Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the United States. She directed for several years the poetry radio program Poesía Fuera de los Márgenes on Cronopio radio online who worked with people from Boston, Houston and Buenos Aires. She has worked in the management and organization of poetry festivals and readings with the World Poetry Movement where she has denounced the aggression to human rights and rights to self-determination of peoples, racism and domestic violence, with poets from different countries of the world inside and outside the United States. She was part of Letras en la Frontera Hispanoamerican writers collective during her time in Houston Texas and has participated in the Americas Poetry Festival in NYC in 2019, The Havana International Poetry Festival 2020, The Medellin International Poetry Festival 2024 and Caracol International Poetry Festival Tijuana 2024. Her bilingual poetry collection Miniaturas / Miniatures was published in New York by Arte Poetica Press 2020. She has been included in the poetry anthologies: Medellin Poetry International Festival 2024. Outrage: A Protest Anthology about Injustice in a Post 9/11 World (2015), FEIPOL 2016, FEIPOL 2018, The Americas Poetry Festival of New York 2019.
